Conflict has cost Middle East $12 trillion: report

PDF Print E-mail

CAIRO: The 20 years of conflict has cost the Middle East region 12 trillion U.S. dollars during the period from 1991 to 2010, Egypt's official MENA news agency reported on Sunday quoting an Indian report. The report was published in a book entitled "The Cost of Conflict in the Middle East" by the Strategic Foresight Group in India and translated by the Institute for Peace Studies of Egypt.

The Middle East region afforded a high record of military expenses in the past 20 years and is considered the most armed region in the world, the report said.

The conflict had a negative effect on the Palestinians. The death toll from the conflict has increased to 4,000 Palestinians since 2000, while the number of people living under poverty line has risen to more than one million since 2006, the report said.

The report added that 42 percent of Palestinian families were barred from health care facilities due to the segregating walls that divide their lands.

Countries in the region could have reached a 6 percent growth of its national domestic production, but they failed due to the lack of political stability, it added.

US Democrats no more the 'Peace Party'

President Obama faces the unprecedented challenge of being a war president in charge of a peace party. His emergence in this new role less than a week before he picks up his Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo has been some time in coming. It was one thing for Obama to speak of Afghanistan as the good war during his presidential campaign, when the military situation appeared stable, or even during the first months of his presidency, when there was hope that adding more troops, as he did last spring, could bring the situation quickly under control.

US is broke due to cost of wars

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OT5uw1Fb_0&feature=player_embedded

Wfol.tv was the very few first to state that the wars led by the US across the world against Muslims on the name of the war on terror was making the US weaker and destroying its economy. At that time, when we wrote an editorial on this issue, the rest of the world seemed to state that it was not true that the cost of wars were destroying the US economy. Today the beliefs have changed and even the Americans have started to see the truth. Wars are killing their economy. Hence they must campaign for No Nato, No Wars!
